PARIS: HOTEL ASTORIA OPERA (REVIEW)

During my stay in Paris in March 2013, I stayed at the Hotel Astoria Opera. The three-star boutique hotel has 86 rooms and is located in the 8th arrondissement in a quiet street, close to Place de Clichy. The Galeries Lafayette are a 15 minutes walk away. The nearest metro station is Place de Clichy (5 minutes walk).

I liked the design of the recently renovated hotel and the fact that it’s so bright. The spacious hall with the light blue armchairs and the red pillows reminded me of the sixties. The glass-roofed breakfast hall in white, red and yellow makes you feel at ease. The breakfast is good, even though the only bread they serve is the baguette.

My room was located on the fifth floor. It was bright and even had a tiny balcony. I liked the fact that it had a desk and a shelf. The size of the bathroom was okay. Unfortunately, it didn’t have any power point. If you want to style your hair in the morning with the curling iron or the straightening iron, you have to use the power point near the desk.

The staff is very friendly. Free Wifi access is available in the hotel, even though I noticed that sometimes the connection is a bit slow. At the reception, you can order a taxi to get to the airport Charles de Gaulle a day before you leave. It costs about 17 Euro, which is much less than a normal taxi would charge you.
