Chinese model Fei Fei Sun is the first Asian model who features on the cover of Vogue Italia. It’s hard to believe, but since its launching in 1964, Vogue Italia has never put an Asian model on its cover. Vogue Italia has worked with Asian models before, but only for editorials. Neither UK nor U.S. Vogue has ever had a Chinese cover girl. French Vogue was the first European magazine to put a Chinese model on its cover, using Du Juan in a 2011 edition.
In the January 2013 Vogue Italia edition, Fei Fei Sun enchants in retro-inspired looks, channeling Avedon muse China Machado for the lens of Steven Meisel. Fashion editor Lori Goldstein chose a selection of sumptuous pieces of Valentino, Miu Miu, Gucci and Giorgio Armani for the Chinese beauty to wear. For beauty, hairstylist Guido Palau created elegant coifs while makeup artist Pat McGrath was responsible for the brunette’s dramatic eyes.
Fei Fei Sun has walked for many big fashion brands: Dries Van Noten, Céline, Sonia Rykiel, Chloé, Elie Saab, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Miu Miu, Christian Dior, Nina Ricci, Loewe, Thierry Mugler, Lanvin, Chanel, Dries Van Noten, YSL, Hermès, Zac Posen. The model has also landed starring roles in some of the biggest beauty campaigns, including becoming the face of DKNY’s Be Delicious fragrance and Calvin Klein’s One.
Discovered thanks to the Elite Model Look contest, Fei Fei Sun was one of big winners of the 2008 international final in Sanya, China. Very quickly, Fei Fei proved her versatility and maturity. She became the fashion world’s protégé and was notably favored by renowned photographers such as Peter Lindbergh, Daniel Jackson and Mert & Marcus.
