Dolce & Gabbana takes us back in history to the era of the Norman Kings (1066-1154). In the 11th century the southern regions of Italy were united under Roger II. He started the two centuries of Norman domination of the Kingdom of Sicily.
The show which took place on January 11, 2014 in Milan opened with the 8 Norman kings of Sicily. Models wore jewel encrusted crowns and the effigies of the Norman Kings: Roger I, Roger II, William I, William II, Tancred, Henry VI, Frederick II and Manfred.
I particularly liked the beautiful prints on coats, suits, shirts, trousers and gloves. They were inspired by the great Romanesque architecture of the Normans, especially the basilicas and mausoleums. I also loved the armours fully printed on burgundy, green and smoky grey suits. The luxurious knitwear, in gun metal grey, was embroidered with thread and inspired by the damask metalwork on medieval armour.
