Zuhair Murad’s 2014 Resort collection tells a tale about a refined urban mermaid that has been captured by net embroideries, tangled in cornely designs skillfully woven by hand like the net of a fisherman.
A modern enchantress and a contemporary queen of an abyss where the fluidity of the seawater is represented by chiffons and crystals.
The dominant colors are pastel shades like jade green, ocean blue, rope beige and coral red and are lightened by the shimmer of thousands of Swarovski and laminated silks, but obviously one can also find a more aggressive touch of black and the ubiquitous white, embellished with pearls embroideries.
Modern and contemporary cuts dominate the evening dresses, which become long, raw cut, precious peplums, embellished with applications and printed with marine ropes and seashells that are placed directly on the skin.
Surrounded by an underwater world, between pearls and corals, the chiffon dresses seem jellyfishes hiding among the seaweed, dresses with tight mermaid tails, embroidered with precious braided ropes.
The longuette dresses acquire a modern, graphic shape, like masterpieces naturally molded at the bottom of the ocean, the colorful and rich sea sponges effects are recreated by embroidering macramé laces with the iridescence of the mother of pearls.
The daytime dresses, like a Janus Bifrons, present the full body of a geometric macramé mixed with the lightness of a laminated silk.
