What a glamourous ad campaign! I’ve just received Jean-Paul Gaultier’s new fragrance “Classic Intense” and was mesmerized when I saw the beautiful picture of the gold perfume bottle and the amazing gold corset Gautlier designed for his model Rianne Ten Haken.
I wore the fragrance Classique all summer long in 2012. There aren’t many commercial fragrances I would wear, but Classique is a sophisticated fragrance you can easily buy as a gift for a beloved person.
Classique was created in 1993 by French perfumer Jacques Cavallier. The new Classique Intense was created by Parisian perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, who created Gaultier’s successful male fragrance Le Male. A bottle of Le Male is sold every six seconds in the world.
Francis Kurkdjian wanted a Classique Intense fragrance that transmits all the sensuality embodied by the famous corset of the fashion designer. Asked about the timelessness of Classique, the perfumer said: “First of all the brand. Perfume is an extension of fashion. If the brand disappears, the perfume doesn’t exist anymore. Second, the perfume is iconic. It’s real femininity. Moreover, it has its own signature. If you wear a Gaultier dress or a fragrance, people recognize it immediately. You make a statement with it.”
